I know this is an oft discussed topic on three wheel rigs, two wheel bikes, trucks, cars, etc. I am now looking to replace two of the Yokohama 175/55R16 tires on my K12GT rig. The bike has a bit over 8500 miles on, I am not sure how many of these are sidecar miles. The tire on the sidecar is worn the most with about 1/8 tread left. The rear tire shows wear, but not nearly as much as the sidecar side. The front tire has little wear. The wear on all three tires is even across so no alignment or balance concerns; thank you Bill.

Any thoughts as to Yokohama v. Vredestein, cost/price/wear, etc. I used Vredestein on my other BMW rig but only changed one tire due to blowout.

Does anyone else make that size tire?

Bill, so far the only one who makes that size tire is Yokohama, and none that come real close to the size. Best thing I have found out is the Yoko tire is also the least expensive for that type of tire. It is ONLY $250 per! And to get only one season's use, about 7-8k miles puts this ride on ice more often than it goes out. The only positive at this time is I only need two! The front looks like another season of life.

Any ideas?

Tire Rack has the Yoko for $192. It is a gumball sticky tyre but I'm surprised you get such lousy mileage - the Lotus guys get 10K miles on them.

If you go up to 185/55 you have a few choices - a Dunlop sport tyre for $81 each, or even a Blizzak snow tyre Shocked

What temperature do you store your rig at over the winter? This is from Yokohama:

Quote:
Yokohama's care instructions specify that due to its compound characteristics, ADVAN Neova tires must be used and stored at temperatures above -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) to maintain its performance and avoid tire damage.

I do not think any other size tire will fit on that rig,
If memory serves, everything was extremely close.

I live in Cincinnati, and my bikes are stored in my non-heated garage. They do get use periodically when the road conditions allow, and the temp is anyway near freezing or above.

Bill, I think you are right, certainly not much clearance on any of the three tires. So I am getting the tires, and the cost includes removing the wheels, which is not an easy task, mounting and balancing. And I trust the guy who will be doing this. He has been my auto/truck mechanic/advisor for almost 20 years. He is a stickler and perfectionist. Getting the wheels off this rig, especially the rear one is not an easy feat. I don't know that I would trust many others.

So here we go, next week.

I have 28000mi on a BMW K12RS/Hannagan HPS and I replace a tire each year.I seem to wear the rear out first so the new tire goes to the front and I move that tire to the rear so I get around 9000 to 10000miles per year. The sidecar tire is still good.
I run the Yokahama, locally mounted and balanced about $254

My sidecar tire wore out first, the drive tire is worn, but not as far as the sidecar. The front looks brand new.
