Flint, do you find it difficult to switch from driving on the right to the left side. Is it uncomfortable to have your sidecar on the "wrong" side for England? _________________ CBR1100XX/EZS

Zen,
Ain't we Europeans a confussing lot
If you want the road signs in English you have to ride with the sidecar on the wrong side.
If you want to ride with the sidecar on the right side, then the road signs are in a foreign langauge.
Give a day or two I'll see what I can find out about riding, as you say it is confussing.
I power round lefthanders and coast round righthander, which I suppose is the opposite to you.
On top of al that you'll be approaching them on the wrong side of the road to what your used too.

Ahh ! Austria, takes me back to my honeymoon, 25 years ago.
We spent 2 weeks in a little village in the mountains between Salzberg & Innesbrook, lovely laid back people.
Wonderful roads and scenary, the food I put a stone on in those 2 weeks, and yes I did exercise

Now see what you've started Zen

Yes, i think in the beginning it is difficult t drive on the wrong side. It is a long time ago since i was in Britain, i think about 20 Years, i was a little younger and i was there with a Truck
Now, next week i will see how it is, but i look at this very unhurried. The only Problem could be on overtaking, but i heard that everyone in England drive the same speed. I tell you after the Trip.
@ Keith: nice Pics, Innsbruck is 200 Km from me. If you go there, take a stop by me _________________ with greetings from AUSTRIA, Harald

Keith, You're not making a strong case to come to England!
Flint, I look forward to hearing about your trip to the "wrong side"
The pictures of Innsbruck make a very strong case for going there too....
I would have thought with England and Europe being so close that both of you would have spent more time crossing the Channel _________________ CBR1100XX/EZS

Zen the reasons You have stated as to why you are airing on caution with roads and sidecars being on the wrong side is one big reason the majority of British and Europeans don't cross the channel that often.
There are of course the exceptions to everything and some do it regularly, I know a lot of the Merlin club go to the rally Bruno mentioned.
One tip they gave me was when overtaking stick the sidecar out a little and if the monkey puts a thumb up, then go for it.
This is the main reason I don't go with my monkey being patcially sighted, and can not see anything over six feet away, I don't want her to become a radiator mascot on Flints 18 wheeler
I still say think it over and decide on one or the other, I think to do both would be total concentration for 3 weeks and you'd not get to enjoy the sights you see or people you meet.
I'm not trying to put you off England, just trying to get you to realise the enormity of your proposed trip and it's problems.
I'd rather do that than tell you to come over and everything will be fine.

Just to show what your taking on in England alone.
I have been planning a trip around England and wales, stopping off at Biker friendly cafes along the way.
Talking to the local bikers and getting their stories, given the distance and spending one day at each cafe.
It's going to take me around 6 weeks to do, following the black line on the map.
Oh and I'll have to miss about about 12 cafes/pubs on the way.

So i hope the first time i go on the island with sidecar will go ok. We only drive from Hull (her we come with the Ferry) to Wales, then some trips on single roads and back to Hull.

Zen
Words of encouragement.
The very first time I flew or even got on a airoplane, we flew to Pittsburgh. Believing it was our first and last trip to the States we shopped till we dropped buying anything from, Prez flip ups to Steelers blankets !
I think you are the same believing this could be your one and only trip, I believe like us you'll get hooked and come over agian.
Which is why I say choose one or the other and do the other next trip.
Good luck making your mind up

point well taken. I guess when the time comes, we'll just have to make a decision on what to see. Quality rather than quantity is the most important thing. There are lots of places in North America we've never been to too. So much to do and so little time. _________________ CBR1100XX/EZS
