If it's not running wide low profile auto tires it's not a HPS, no matter how much HP it's got. Attention

Rallye racing in France is done with street legal motorcycles and sidecars and has played a major roll in the development of High Performance Sidecars. In the Scratch Class the sidecars go up against all the solo bikes for the best time.

Roger's reference to the rallye racing gives a clue to the true definition of a high performance sidecar - it's not a list of what hardware a rig should or should not have, but THE ABILITY TO ACTUALLY PERFORM AT A HIGH LEVEL.

Lists of hardware common to today's high performance sidecar rigs: CHS, wide car tires, advanced suspensions, etc , can show us today's state of the art, but, as noted previously, tomorrow's state of the art may be something we have not even thought of yet.

My hat's off to those of you who have actually helped dream and build today's high performance rigs, and are still dreaming and building tomorrow's higher performing machines.

Good job Mike..an official definition finally. Consider this:

Magazine reporter:
"Wanted to do an article on sidecars . What is the one you have called?"

Mike:
"If is a High Performance Sidecar, most just call them HPS rigs."

Reporter:
"Sure looks neat. What defines a HPS rig apart from the other sidecars around?"

Mike:
" HPS rigs are like pronography... kinda hard to define but you know what it is when you see it".

Reporter:
" Thanks"

There's a city near you who's team play in my sidecar colours, because were fans Big Grin

Keith,
Uh..'central Pennsylvania' is near the center of the state of Pennsylvania. Big Grin
That team's city is about three or so hours west and a little south of us.
Claude, from greater downtown Penns Creek.
NOTE: Population is pretty steady here as when one girl gets preganant one guy usually leaves town. Wink

We could always go with the Harley saying about why they ride HD's "If I had to explain, you wouldn't understand."

Or:
It is a sidecar and it performs highly?
This may bring a smirk from the pimply faced squid on the Gixer with the $700 helmet but after he gets dusted off in the twisties by the old guy on the sidecar rig doing a three wheel drift on the ouside of the turn with smoke boiling off his rear tire as he waves goodbye his smile will fade a little.

Swaybar,
Yeah it's just I've visited a few places in the State, and wondered if I been near you.

We live between Middleburg and Penns Creek, Pa. in the woods about a mile off the hardroad. Shop is in Penns Creek right behind the store that has the only gas pumps in town. Pretty smal town on route 104 about 50 miles north of Harrisburg. Most people when coing into town will say:
"This IS a nice town WASN'T it?"
Visit anytime .....
Claude, who wonders why all cars don't have the gas cap on the same side.
