Some significant progress

Aligning everything

Tacked together

a) The heat index is about a 100 degrees, do I really want to go back to the barn and weld?
b) Where am I going to attach the stinking steering dampener?

Well it seemed like progress yesterday,

The wife's stepfather (my step-father-in-law ?) brought his welding rig over. He's a retired professional welder, so it all came apart for welding,

This project has been plagued with a lot of "while I'm there" additions. One is to retrofit an older 3 core K bike radiator instead of the 2 core that came on the K1100s. The temperature gauge has always stayed very near the red, or in the red when ridden spiritedly, hopefully this will cool things down.

The difference between the two is easily seen (top is three core) Its almost a bolt in according to what I read on the net.

Sad

Talked to Bruce at Penske about my shock, turns out they got flooded by the storms last week, so it will be a little longer. Everything and everybody's OK, just displaced.

Sad

Hi Mike.
Now that it is welded up solid, assuming that it is.
With those long swing arm, is there any noticable flex or twisting?
Thinking

The finish welding is done, haven't got it bolted back together yet, been painting the finished pieces, will let you know, but I don't think its going to flex much.

Other progress this week
1) got the larger radiator mounted, it would have benn easy if I hadn't had to take the subframe back off,,,,,,,,,,,,

2) cut the extra holes in the fairing, for the front end mounts, for some reason this worried me more than all the other cahnges, maybe because its visible and non reversable

Kind of hard to explain without waving my arms n the air and pointing to things, but here goes. (And holding back the desire to say, one end to something that moves with the front wheel and the other end to something that doesn't Big Grin )

Looking at the picture above "tacked together" a couple of posts up. The bottome shock mount will go on the lower of the three tubes that make up the front swingarm.

The shock will lay back at about 45 degree angle.

An extra strut will be added tieing the front sidecar mount and the added center bracket together. The top of the shock will mount to that.

Its the steering damper that still has me scratching my head. Was thinking of hooking to the fender mount on the steering arm, but Zen Bill warnings that it might give me to much damping. Question
