August 22 – 25, 2014 – Summit Point Sidecar RON DEE VOO. A number of members of the Internet Sidecar Owners Klub, the High Performance Sidecar Club, the United Sidecar Association, Adventure Rider, and others, have attended this event in the past, first as an organized event known as the ISOK Ron-Dee-Voo, and most recently as an unorganized gathering of like minded sidecarists. It has been a lot of fun to say the least. In the past, some have camped or RV’ed at the race track and some have stayed at the Econo Lodge Motel www.econolodge.com/hotel-winchester-virginia-VA226?promo=gglocal and others in Winchester, Virginia and the surrounding towns.

Members attending have been known to arrive Friday afternoon and leave Monday morning. This is not an organized official rally of any sort, it is just an opportunity to have a good time hanging out with a bunch of sidecar people and support the sidecar racers and what they do. If you have never seen sidecar racing, you’re in for a real treat. If the conditions are favorable, the street legal sidecars have been given the opportunity to do a parade lap on the track as well.

Some sidecarists even come earlier and stay later to take in the attractions in the area. For example visiting the historic areas of Charles Town, WV https://www.google.com/search?
q=Charlestown,+WV&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=VAX5UsvHH4bH0QGzn4CgCQ&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAg&biw=1527&bih=876 , Harpers Ferry, WV https://www.google.com/search?q=Harpers+Ferry,+WV&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=5AP5Uq7iOuTq0wGoloGwAQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg&biw=1527&bih=876 , Front Royal, VA http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g57755-Activities-Front_Royal_Virginia.html , etc.

Some scenic drives in the area are: http://dc.about.com/od/daytripsgetaways/a/SkylineDrive.htm , http://dc.about.com/od/walkingtours/tp/Virginia-Scenic-Drives.htm , http://www.motorcycleroads.com/Routes/West-Virginia_124.html , http://www.motorcycleroads.com/Routes/Virginia_122.html .

And maybe Dar will be there too.
I've been planning a trip to the West Coast, sometime around late July and into August - see if I can make it back as far as Summit Point in the right timeframe to catch up with y'all.

And all without a trailer Exclamation Exclamation Big Grin Big Grin Crazy Crazy Crazy

Plus, it ain't that simple a plan, either Exclamation Exclamation

Since a friend moved to California (LA) a couple of years ago, I've been thinking I should ride out to see him, and on the way ride the whole Pacific Coast Highway from Washington down to LA.
How to get to Washington and avoid interstates Question well, how about US2? I've ridden on parts of it in the past up in New England, and across the northern states from Michigan into eastern Washington, but not all the way to the west coast. So that idea has been fermenting in my brain for a while.
Now my friend has moved back to the east coast - near Miami, Florida - but I still want to do that Pacific Coast ride. Gee, northwestern Washington to southern California looks like 2 corners of the lower 48 states. If I still go to see my friend in Florida too, 3 corners, and if I start out going east to Maine, I can do the eastern part of US2 and have all 4 corners Exclamation Exclamation

And Summit Point is on the way home from Florida Big Grin

Well, a few years ago -

Maybe he's onto something.

Or my wife told him to say that.

ok, some of us deserved that! Laughing

So are you thinking 2 wheels or 3 wheels for this latest adventure Question Doesn't sound like your friend Dom from Germany is coming over for this trip?

1 - Not really sure yet.
I have been thinking about how much gas I'd use for each of my several choices. Roughly about 10,000 miles at 30 or 45 or 60 mpg. Hmm...
But, then, there's the tires. Probably would just about use up a pair of them on any of the 2 wheelers; the car tires on the rig last a lot longer.
Comfort? a toss-up between the 3 wheeler and any of the 2 wheelers.
Amount of extra junk I could carry? Definitely the sidecar, but how much extra junk do I really need to carry anyway? It's going to be a solo trip anyway.

2 - No, Dom decided that after three straight years of 3+ week bike rides, he wasn't up for any extended bike trip this year.

But, Hey - this thread is supposed to be about Summit Point. Yeah, I'm going to try to make it there. Very Happy Very Happy
