Yesterday I went to the annual Indian Day motorcycle gathering in Springfield MA. For years Indian Day was held at the Indian Museum located in the factory where Indians were built until 1953, but a few years ago that museum was shut down and the collection was donated the the Springfield museum; the exhibits in the new setting are a great improvement over what they had at the factory site.
But Indian Day is not about the museum exhibit, it is about the scores of Indians that everybody rides (or brings somehow) to participate in the outdoor festival. And a bunch of old Indian parts for sale - frames, engines, cylinders, rusty nuts and bolts.
But of course, in order to post this here, I have to mention that there were a couple of nice looking sidecars to be seen: (even if they're not really High Performance models up to our sophisticated standards )

One of their four cylinder models:
and one of their sideways V-twins with a shaft drive (like a Moto Guzzi):
a few really old ones like this:
And inside, in the museum, this beautiful looking Militor, which was also made in Springfield back in the 19-teens until the early 1920's:
Definitely worth a trip to see the museum exhibit any time, lots of stuff was made in Springfield back in the day (including Rolls Royce and Pierce Arrow autos - they're on display too). And if you go on Indian Day, a lot more Indians outside, too. _________________ David D

Hey, I just realized that if you click on any of the photos above, it takes you to the Photobucket site where you can see everything else I've posted there. Including more photos from Indian Day, plus mostly all the other photos that I've ever posted on this forum. If you check that out look for the Indian girl on the side of a gas tank _________________ David D

Thanks for posting the excellent pictures! I need to get over there some time. I'm closer to there than you are but have just never gotten over there. _________________ CBR1100XX/EZS
