No we're not the Beverly Hillbillys, just a way to haul youngest son's wheel chair around, so he's not stuck in the car when going for a ride.

Jake's pretty pleased. Big Grin

It's been called Jake's trailer since the start.

Looks really good I'm well impressed with you.
Glad you have desided to give your son some out of the sidecar time.

It helps when he can see the reason you've parked him in field. Big Grin

Can you not get a folding version off Ebay or handicapped surpliers ?

I realise there's a lot more to your son's chair than my wife's, but I got a basic foldup chair since she only spends a few hours in it.

Keith,

Jake normally uses a Peromobil power chair, which weighs something over 200 lbs, so was a little heavy to tow behind the rig,,,,,

The chair in the picture is his back up chair, it used to fold up, but we have an EZ lock adapter on it so it no longer folds.

We did have a smaller folding chair that would just barely fit in the trunk, but he outgrew it.

I thought about another folding chair and a rack, but this seems to work well,,, so far

Mike

I was just thinking I know how adventurous you are and those field you go bouncing through.
Just thought an onboard chair would be better than something bouncing at the back of you if it turns over.
But reality is you've probably thought that one out.

Went to the DMV this morning to get tags and title for it.

Turns out I stamped a 6 instead of a 9 in the VIN Embarassed

Will try again next week.

Bureaucracy, American Style.

DMV would be the Department of Motor Vehicles - each of the 50 states has their own version of this , each with their own rules and regulations.

I'll leave it to Mike to fill in the particulars of his experience.

Dar had it right, Since its a home made trailer you have to apply to the state for a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which must be stamped "in a workmanlike manner", whatever the *%&# that means, on the tongue of the trailer and on the axle. The 6/9 was the tenth digit in a string of digits.

I had it right on the axle but must have had the die upside down when I stamped the 9 on the tongue.

(The inspector also didn't like the fact that I stamped the number on the bottom of the axle, I had to hold the trailer up in the air so he could see the number.)

So now I have two different VIN's on the tongue. They said if I ground the old one off it would appear to be stolen, how having two is better is beyond my understanding. Question

Wow !
I wondered where all our rejects had wandered off to, seems their over in the States !

Yes we have a Department of Transport and it sounds like we have the same dumb rules, enforced by idiots.

When I declaired the sidecar as disabled, (to get it tax free) they said I could have it off the sidecar but not the bike !
Incase I sold the bike at a profit since they'd be no tax on it, I pointed it out that's like buying a horse & cart and selling the horse !

I did eventually got tax off both by welding the sidecar to the bike.

Nope had to remove it, neighbors complained about the noise when I'd slow down to turn in the driveway.
