Maybe this is just an English thing.
At a Triumph owners meeting I was talking to a couple.
His wife due to the standard "I didn't see you mate" accident is now confined to a wheelchair. Up to now she as stayed at home whilst he as gone on ride outs on a solo machine.
He was all excited to tell me they were going to look at a new Nippi tricycle for her.
Nippi Think of a charriot with handlebars at the front and a space so the wheelchair user can sit in wheelchair and ride the tricycle. Which is powered by a 250cc 2 stroke Honda engine-a lawn mower.
Given my sidecar is designed for the purpose of a wheelcahir passenger I suggested a sidecar.
Shock, horror, the woman said "Oh no I'd be to scared the sidecar would fall off".
Is it just here, or does the sidecar image to the general biker public, be one of the sidecar parting company with the bike a common fantasy.

I think it's a common misconception the world over. A sidecar has to be one of the most practical motorcycle accessories ever invented. Among many motorcyclist, sidecars are a big negative for whatever reasons. I'm biased for sure, but it seems to me that for many motorcyclist, a sidecar at one point in their lives, would make perfect sense. Sidecars have been part of motorcycling since nearly the beginning of motorcycling but have never been fully understood or accepted by the motorcycling community at large. Just my 2 cents worth |
