To my eye this looks a lot worse for a sidecar project. It's heavier, it has shaft drive (so you can't regear for the sidecar, and you'll have more problems getting a rear wheel to fit), and it's more expensive.

Who needs saddlebags anyway, when you have a sidecar??

I couldn't agree with you more on all accounts. There seems to be even less structure to attatch things to. With the wheel coming off on the sidecar side, it also makes it next to impossible to attatch a swaybar.

Maybe I could adapt the Concors front fairing and bars to the ZX-14.
Something to think about.

6000 miles on a shaft drive FJR and no problems. Saddlebags are detachable. It would seem that you would only need to re-gear if you had a low performance rig. Question Aren't you going to have to machine a rear wheel with the ZX? Plus; who needs a swaybar anyway? Laughing

The sitting position sure looks good.

Yes, exactly! After the last 26 years on BMWs and Guzzis, I had forgotten what a pain playing with a chain was. As for regearing - do you need it with that motor? And if you do, a new rear end sounds like a nice project for a machinist to really show his stuff. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
That was the great thing about the family of airhead BMWs, if you did want to regear your R100, you just put in an R80 rear end. (not sure how the newer beemers are in this respect)
Saddlebags? Hallelujah! Keep my gear dry! My Bandito trunk fills up with water whenever it rains. And if I ever did go traveling with a passenger, instead of using the whole sidecar as a luggage carrier, luggage capacity for two would be an issue.

It looks to me like there is swingarm (or some funky sembelance thereof) on both sides of the rear wheel, should be able to attach a swaybar somehow. Or put the car on the left, a la Brit style - at least one member on the forum has stated that it's not really a problem driving that way on the right side of the street. (do I really believe him? Question ) And then you wouldn't have to think about changing the muffler over, too. Big Grin

But most importantly, for my riding at least -

which is what prompted my original comment, above.

But, (to paraphrase another forum member) what do I know? I don't even work at a car wash.

Nothing, just blabbing, Blah Blah Blah after all what the hell do I know, I just know the guy that works at the car wash. Wink

Will you have to machine a new rear hub for the ZX?

It would be interesting to know what the gearing difference is between the zx14 and the Concours

Looks like I need to get a job at the car wash! Laughing

certainly would be easier to do a distance on it.

Still, I stand by my earlier comments on the Concours 14. The ZX14 is about the nicest motorcycle I've ever riden. The bars are a bit lower than the way I have my XX set up but still I didn't find it all that objectional for the riding I've done on it. I think with the bar risers and a little taller windshield it should be that much better. I do like the Concours style of bike, so maybe after I get to check one out in real time, I may see it differently.

All the air I've seen under your sidecar tire, I'd say you do.
