Hi everyone Smile (Newby to this whole scene and a futureHPS owner).I have been very interested and inspired by this project and the whole site thinking about it.
Question
I just have one (of several) Questions to ask ,, what is the thinking behind the long swing arm? as opposed to the shorter types fitted to rigs like bmcsheehy's (top pictures by the way, very informative)
cheers

Welcome Lemon
Thanks for looking.

Liam

Two reason's really,

First was the idea that there would be less change in camber as the front suspension moves with a long swingarm than with a short arm.

Second with the existing subframe that was on the rig the long arm seemed easier to fabricate (easy being a relative term)

Mike

(plus I didn't want it to look to much like bmcsheehy's)

It's Alive

About 7:00 PM today went for the first test drive.

Need a stiffer spring in the front shock. Added about an inch of preload.

Maybe a lighter spring on the sidecar, and less height.

Haven't touched any of the adjustments on the shocks.

The toe in is set to,,,,,,,,something,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Caster is about in the middle.

It works surprising well

Congratulations!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Isn't it great getting back on the road again? And even having it work pretty well, to boot!
Guess this answers Larry's question from back in April:
Quote:
Very nice, Doc! When do you anticipate you'll be road-testing?

Hope to see your rig in person (so to speak) one of these days.
Beautiful weather here in the Northeast this weekend - got out today myself for my first long , just for fun, ride since returning from Maggie Valley in June.

Pictures before too long,

Yesterday I was more intrested in riding than photographing,

I rode it to work this morning, will try and get away to get it inspected at lunch, the NC inspection sticker is still on the old front end.
