Here's the finished twistgrip shifter, waiting for the grip and
nylon end sleeve to be installed.

What you're looking at is a billet MSR throttle tube with the
end machined open so it slides up on the clip on. A Kawasaki
KX-250 dirtbike push-pull throttle cable housing and cables.
An MSR clutch perch that has had it's ID machined as to allow it
to mount on the throttle tube, and an MSR clutch lever.

And the custom bracket and shift shaft cable bellcrank I
fabricated. After this photo I decided the bracket had a bit
too much flex and braised in an additional brace to box it up
a bit.

The bellcrank is nothing more than three large fender washers
braised together, (the one in the center about 1/16th of an inch
in diameter smaller) some 1.5 inch round bar stock, and the very
end of an MSR shift lever for a Honda XR-100, which just happens
to be toothed exactly the same as a GB500 motor shift shaft.

The bellcrank is then drilled and cut to accept the cable barrel
ends. The channel created by the smaller washer in the middle
of the washer sammich has been braised over, and then
filed/sanded smooth, to give the cables a soft channel to run in.

Here's the cable bellcrank installed on the shift shaft...

The hole in the bellcrank is not threaded. It gets filled with
moly lube, and the threaded bolt on the bracket slides into the
hole and keeps the bracket and bellcrank pulley dead center.

It also helps keep the pulling force of the cables dead equal,
and keeps the cables from pulling 'up' on the shift shaft instead
of just rotating it.

And, with the bracket and cables in place... I used a longer
allen bolt to replace the stock allen bolt in the countershaft
sprocket cover, and cut a spacer to go on the longer allen bolt
between the countershaft sprocket cover and the bracket.

And finally, an overall shot of the installation...

Thanks, and here's why...

http://cancer.iu.edu/osteosarcoma/patients/stories/sarah.php

'radical limb salvage' is doc-speak for full length artifical hip and femur,
with the last four inches or so of her actual femur to the top of the knee
belonging to someone else. For some reason sitting upright on a bike
and moving her foot forward and backwards on the footpeg to shift, and
lifting up on the shifter to shift gears, fatigues her really fast, within 10
minutes. Most of it has to do with the amount of muscle missing in the
outside of her left thigh.

Weird part is it's all body position. She can drive/shift the RGM in the
kneeler position all day with no problems at all.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chemo and radiation! I too am a Cancer survivor. Hodgkins Mid 1960's. I was actually one the early field trials for Cytoxin and was one the earliest successful Hodgkins cases. Back then they were still trying to figure out the radiation dosing and as a result they burned me up pretty badly still a small price top pay! I've Been in remission since the 60's!

Oh and if your were my hero before now your really my hero! Thanks for making another Cancer survivors dreams come true!(Mine! Now I'm building MY sidehack!)
