I finally took delivery of my new Hannigan Bandito and rode it back to Atlanta from Tennessee last week. I am wondering if anyone has experience with speedometer recalibration (either the black box units or what a shop might be able to do). I don't think I'll feel very secure doing this in my head as I ride.
Also, Dave Hannigan says the tire pressure should be 22 psi. Although I have heard that HPS rigs run lower than normal pressures, this seems especially low. Any thoughts?

Tire pressure sounds about right, I run 22 to 24 in mine.

I'm using a Yellowbox Speedometer calibrator http://www.blackrobotics.com/ and have had good luck with it. Had a little problems getting it working at first, but once we got an email problem fixxed (the firewall here was stopping all foreign emails for a while,) their tech support got me up and working. Once it worked, just put number one son in the sidecar with a GPS and intercom and tweaked until it was right.

One of them Yankee boys is using a Speedometer Healer which gives you a few extra functions, such as max speed.

So other than that, how do you like the Bandito?

Mike

Gee Mike, I said I was sorry. Laughing Buddies

I am using a Speedo Healer.
http://www.speedohealer.com/eng/intro.htm
Works great, I think it might be a little cheaper than some others.
One nice feature on mine is the highest speed recall. Turn the ignition on, push a button and the factory speedometer show the highest speed of the day, you know, for bragging rights. Big Grin

Thank you all for the advice. I am going to try the Speedo Healer. So far, I am loving the Bandito. Of course, what I have to compare it to is my R90/2/Bender rig, which I have been riding for 15 years or so, and just a few short rides on a Sidebike. I haven't had the courage to change the trail position from highway mode, so the rig is much more stable and planted than the BMW (it also seems nearly impossible to fly, but I guess that will come with experience. BTW, just out of curiousity, what happens if one runs too high tire pressure? Is it a tire wear or a stability problem?
My wife thinks the car is much more comfortable than the Bender (probably a good thing she hasn't ridden in a modern touring car!), so I think it will be easier to get her out for some long rides.

Ken, glad you like it and my appologies for the delay. The tires on your bike have a max load carrying capacity of 1048lbs at 51 psi. The Bandito being so much lighter than a car, the actual load on each tire is significantly less and using 30psi +/- the tires would essentially be over inflated in our use. It's extremely clear, our collective experience shows that in our application, with higher tire pressure you loose grip on dry and wet pavement. The rig will track much better at the lower tire pressures and tire wear is not adversly affected.

When I first got the K11 / EML the dealer told me to run 40 psi (I think, it was a while ago.) One thing I found was that on interstate with rain grooves it felt like there was no connection between any of the three wheels.

And it holds in a corner much better with the lower pressure, basically not enough weight to make the tire flat on the pavement.

( What Bill Zentime said, but with littler words ) Big Grin

I am currently running 15 lbs rear, 15 lbs side, 18 lbs front.
Pretty happy with this combination. Motorcycle Happy
